Tell us about yourself!
My name is Tanya, I’m an illustrator in Hong Kong and I’m addicted to mountains and cats. Currently, I’m working on some work for a gallery show, and training towards my first 100 mile ultra.
Favorite place to workout in HK?
Mount Butler is my favourite, if you climb it from Quarry Bay you get the best panoramic views of Victoria Harbour and then Tai Tam reservoir. It looks spectacular in the sunshine, or with moody rain clouds.
What’s your spirit animal and why?
Cats, they are adventurous and lazy in equal doses, just like me >_<
How do you usually start your day?
In the summer, I start with a run at sunrise to beat the heat, followed by a huge breakfast and a large cup of tea. In the winter, I struggle to get out of bed and often sort my emails with a lap full of cats, whilst trying to persuade myself to get my day going!
You’re message to the W5 Tribe….
Start with small, bite-size goals. A few years ago I couldn’t walk up the peak without having to stop several times to catch my breath, and now I run up the peak as a warm up.
The journey that has led to me hoping to complete 100 miles this May, has been a series of small victories (and just as many failures) that have each taught me something about what I think I am capable of doing, and what my body can actually do.
Most importantly, never forget to enjoy the view and the trails – we are so very lucky to have such immediate access to world class running trails.
